"Lars David Kellner (...) enchanted everyone present with the extraordinary sounds he coaxed from his art harmonium."

Beer-Walbrunn Days as the cultural highlight of the year

This year, the Kohlberg Art and Culture Association hosted the Beer-Walbrunn Days for the 10th time. To mark this small anniversary, the audience was treated to a very special auditory delight.

Lars David Kellner, who grew up in Weiherhammer, enchanted everyone present with the extraordinary sounds he coaxed from his art harmonium. Harmoniums tend to be overlooked in classical concert performances, even though, as Mr. Kellner explained, quite a few pieces were also written for the harmonium. He took the audience through the evening with works by Karg-Elert, Liszt, Janacek, Reger, and Beer-Walbrunn.

The concert was accompanied by Susanne Sperrhake, who recited from the composers' letters and feuilletons in an highly expressive manner between the pieces, thus bringing the audience a little closer to their world.

One downside was the absence of singer Frauke May, who had to cancel for health reasons, resulting in a last-minute change to the program. This did not dampen the audience's enthusiasm, however.

The church music service on Sunday, held by retired pastor Martin Valeske, was another highlight and marked the end of the concert days. Once again, the congregation was treated to a performance by Mr. Kellner, who presented pieces by Max Reger. Former church music director Hanns-Friedrich Kaiser accompanied the service on the organ. Members of the Weiden choir provided the vocals.

A big thank you goes to Martin Valeske and the association for organizing this event.

A report on the concert can be found in the OTV media library.
