Karg-Elert: Consolations Op. 47, Lars David Kellner (harmonium d'art)

The 'Consolations' Op. 47, composed in 1918, were published in 1920 as one of Karg-Elert's last compositions by the publishing house Simon, with whom he had a prolific collaboration.

The pieces are arranged by the composer in such a way that they can be played on both the pressure wind system and the suction wind system used in this recording. Karg-Elert gives specific registration and playing instructions for both systems.

In the religious pictures, Karg-Elert explores the full range of the instrument in terms of expressivity and dynamics. His Consolations were obviously very close to the composer's heart, as he included them (at least in part) in the program of his American tour in 1932.

The eight pieces from Opus 47 have not yet been recorded for solo (art) harmonium.

Lars David Kellner (art harmonium).
